Sheep grazing under solar panels

Nature is infrastructure.

We design the projects, stack the value and structure the capital so land delivers food, energy, water and habitat at once.

What we do

Land that gets paid for everything it does.

We design the projects, partnerships and capital structures that get land paid for everything it does.

Solar Land Stewardship

We set the standards for vegetation, grazing and habitat across a portfolio, check how the land is performing, and coordinate the regional partners who do the field work.

What you get
  • Portfolio standards and site plans
  • Establishment and corrective-action reports
  • Grazing and agrivoltaic strategies
Improve land performance across your solar portfolio →

For municipalities, utilities, corporations and watershed groups

Resilient Landscapes & Watersheds

We find the water and resilience projects worth funding, design them, set up how they're bought, and assemble the capital.

What you get
  • An opportunity assessment and ranked project pipeline
  • An outcome and procurement framework
  • A capital-stack strategy and roadmap
Build a resilience project pipeline →

Ecological Investment & Land Strategy

We find where land can earn from farming, conservation and ecosystem services, and write a land strategy investors can fund.

What you get
  • Acquisition or portfolio screening
  • A conservation, incentive and market scan
  • Conceptual economics and a capital-stack roadmap

How we build projects

Build the Nature Stack.

Land is usually priced for one thing: a crop, a lease, an easement. We design projects that layer food, energy, water storage, habitat and carbon on the same ground, and match each layer to the public funding, private capital or buyer willing to pay for it.

“We need to think about stacking capital as well as stacking value.”Erin Delawalla, Why The Nature Stack
WaterHold water and build watershed resilience
EnergyGenerate solar and wind energy
FoodGrow food through grazing and farming
HabitatShelter wildlife and rebuild biodiversity
Carbon & soilStore carbon and rebuild healthy soil
CapitalEach layer has its own buyer: farm income, cash rent, easement payments, ecosystem-service payments, public programs and corporate buyers

How we work

1

Design the strategy

We find the projects worth doing, design them, and set the standards the work is done to.

2

Structure the capital

We match each layer to the public funding, private capital or buyer willing to pay for it.

3

Build the partnerships

We bring together the owner, the buyers and the local farmers, ranchers, ecologists and contractors each project needs.

4

Enable local implementation

Local partners do the work on the ground to those standards, and we check it.

Join the Land Steward Network

For farmers, ranchers and land stewards who manage land in harmony with nature and want to grow. The Network is how our projects get done on the ground. Join the community for free.

Get matched to projects and land

We connect operators with LSP projects and with landowners looking for someone to manage their land, where location and fit make sense.

Earn from what your land already does

We look for conservation, water and biodiversity payments, when there's a real buyer or program behind them.

Get help taking it on

We connect you to the technical support, financing or land access each project needs.

Erin Delawalla, founder of Land Steward Partners

Meet the founder

Erin Delawalla

Land Steward Partners was built on a simple idea: land can do more than one thing. Erin brings 15 years in environmental law, permitting, renewable energy, conservation banking and ecosystem markets.

  • Built the solar vegetation business at RES
  • Led the first privately held water quality marketplace in the country
  • Managed environmental and wildlife permitting for utility scale solar and wind at Invenergy
“…we need to stop thinking about land as a single-purpose asset. When managed with intention, land can do many things at once.”Erin Delawalla, Why The Nature Stack

FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

What does Land Steward Partners do?

Land Steward Partners designs the strategies, partnerships and capital structures that turn land, water and agriculture into investable ecological infrastructure.

Who do you work with?

Two kinds of clients: the people who own land or need an outcome from it (solar developers and owners, municipalities, utilities, corporations, watershed groups, family offices, land investors and large landowners), and the farmers and ranchers who do the work on it, through the Land Steward Network.

Do you do the field work?

No. We work on the owner's side: we set the strategy and the standards, and local farmers, ranchers, ecologists and contractors do the work on the ground. We check that work against the standards.

What is The Nature Stack?

The Nature Stack is how we build projects: food, energy, water, habitat and capital layered on the same land. It's also the name of Erin's newsletter and podcast.

Is there a fee to join the Land Steward Network?

No. The Network is how our projects get done on the ground. Join the community for free by filling out a short operator profile: where you are, what you do, how you manage your land, and what's holding you back from growing.
